Books That Inspired Me!

Hello my lovelies, today I’m going to talk about the top five books that have inspired me to be a writer. Each book has brought something different to my world and I just want to share them with you so maybe you can get a little inspiration from them as well. So here they are.

The Secret Garden by Francis Hogan Burnett– “The Secret Garden (1909) is one of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s most popular novels. The book tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled, contrary, solitary child raised in India but sent to live in her uncle’s manor in Yorkshire after her parents’ death. She is left to herself by her uncle, Mr. Craven, who travels often to escape the memory of his deceased wife. The only person who has time for Mary is her chambermaid, Martha. It is Martha who tells Mary about Mrs. Craven’s walled garden, which has been closed and locked since her death. Mary becomes intrigued by the prospect of the forgotten garden, and her quest to find out the garden’s secrets leads her to discover other secrets hidden in the manor. These discoveries combined with the unlikely friendships she makes along the way help Mary come out of her shell and find new fascination with the world around her.”

This was the very first book that inspired me to want to become a writer. This book literally transports you to a different place and time. The vivid world that Francis created is a wonderful escape from reality. Whenever I needed to escape this was the book that I always went to a child. It made me want to be able to do the same for others as Francis had done for me.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling – “It starts with Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid leaving a baby boy, with a tuft of jet-black hair and a curiously shaped wound on his brow, on the doorstep of number four, Privet Drive. They might have thought that his aunt and uncle would look after him kindly. But ten years later, Harry Potter sleeps in a cupboard under the stairs, and the Dursleys – Vernon, Petunia, and their son Dudley – don’t exactly treat him like one of the family. Especially as it becomes clear quite how different from them he is. As his eleventh birthday arrives, the time comes for Harry Potter to discover the truth about his magical beginnings – and embark on the enthralling, unmissable adventure that will lead him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his true friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, powerful secrets and a destiny he cannot avoid …”

What can I say about this book that most fantasy lovers don’t already know? The expansive world that JK created is absolutely fantastic and takes you to a brand-new place and time. The intricacy of the world is so amazing that you can’t help but get lost. The characters change so much during the story you can’t help but want to keep turning pages to know what’s going to happen next. These most inspired me to want to create a world of my own that can s as capture everyone that reads it’s mind. To have them get so involved in my world that they forget about their own world and problems.

Tales From Mushroom Manor Series by Joplin James – “Firefly Forest is in danger! There are rumors circling about that Leona, the evil sorceress elf, has returned to avenge her slain brother’s death. When a new stranger comes to Firefly Forest, he tries to dispel these rumors. Is he to be trusted or does he have ulterior motives? Join Suzy Shortbread, Penelope Pringles, Francois Frog, and the other friends from Mushroom Manor as they find themselves on an adventure of a lifetime! An epic battle between Dark and White magic is about to begin! Who will end up controlling all the Lands of Morada?”

This is a lesser-known fantasy series but one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading over the past weeks. The creativity that Joplin has shown within this book is just absolutely wonderful. The twists and turns in this book keep you on your toes constantly you never know what is going to happen next. Not to mention the cliffhanger he gives at the end of book 2. For me, his characters literally leap off the page with such personality and emotions. I hope that one day my writing will show the same enthusiasm for the world of fantasy and my characters that they too will leap off the page for my readers. I’m looking very forward to reading book 3 of this series called The Heart of White Magic. Here is a link to one of the series if you are interested in reading which I hope you are because it’s a magnificent series.

It by Stephen King  “IT follows the story of seven preteen children from the fictional town of Derry, Maine who are stalked and terrorized by an evil eldritch entity they only know as “IT.” The mysterious creature has the ability to easily shapeshift and disguise itself to its prey, and uses their greatest and deepest psychological fears against them. One of IT’s favorite disguises is the appearance of a circus clown called Pennywise. The novel consistently alternates between two time periods, (1958 to 1985) interweaving the story of the children and the adults that they will eventually grow into.”

This book is different than the others on my list, as it is not a fantasy but horror. If you know me then you will know that clowns are one of my phobias I cannot stand them but I enjoyed this book. It is like Stephen King gets into your mind and knows exactly just how to frighten you. You can feel the character’s emotions in this book very well and this is what makes it such a good book. If you like I be  a little scared now and then I recommend reading this book. I hope to bring out the emotion in people as Stephen King has with this book or any of his books in fact.

The Saviors Champion By Jenna Moreci  “Tobias Kaya doesn’t care about The Savior. He doesn’t care that She’s the Ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn’t care that She’s of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he’s forced to make The Savior his priority. Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign’s Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting—and killing—for the chance to rule at The Savior’s side. Instantly his world is plagued with violence, treachery, and manipulation, revealing the hidden ugliness of his proud realm. And when his circumstances seem especially dire, he stumbles into an unexpected romance, one that opens him up to unimaginable dangers and darkness.”

Last but not least on my list is this book. It’s high action and gory scenes are what makes this book fantastic. The complex relationships, as well as the impending doom that you feel throughout the book, are what makes it stand apart from others. This book is not for the faint of heart as I said there is a lot of gore within this book but if you can stand that I highly recommend reading this book. Jenna also has a YouTube channel where she gives writing advice to people like myself. If you are an aspiring author as well I recommend checking out her channel.
