Hello my Lovelies! How’s it going. It’s time for another interview! This time it with Diana Rose. Diana is a young adult romance writer that I met on Facebook. Let’s get right into the interview!
1.)Tell us a bit about your books.
I write YA Fantasy Romance for young adults. My books are set in the time when royals were still present. My series The Power of Love Series is my first ever series that was not even written as a series at first. Book 1: Forbidden Love was supposed to be one book but after it was finished, I became too sad and I wanted to write more of those characters so I started Book 2: Sacrificed Love and Book 2 soon got divided into two books, Book 2 and Book 3: Undying Love (which is part 2 of Melody and Augustine’s story), and so my series began to take shape.
The ideas for this series came from my grandparents’ love story which I wanted and still want to share with the world. My grandparents’ love story has always fascinated me as a child and I wanted to show that love like that: true love that conquers all, still exists in today’s world. Hopefully, people who read my books will see that and start to believe that true love really does exist because I believe it does.
2.) What has been the best part of creating your books’ world?
The best part of creating my world in my books is the freedom that I have with my genre. I can write anything I want and it will be believable. Also, since I am writing what I know, I love that I can create and make my own world the way I want. Also, the feeling of being able to escape into my world whenever I need to and become a medieval princess or servant or queen or anyone else is the best thing ever.
2a.) The worst?
The worst thing about my world, well, to be honest I haven’t thought of that. But maybe that I can’t write, “Amy took out her cell phone and called her husband, Darien….” because in my world cellphones don’t exist yet. But magic does so I compensate. But, still….technology is kind of mixed in there in some way like computers that can track your location and magical portals…. Some people say that mixing the two is bad, I say “It’s Fantasy anything can happen.”
3.) What advice would you give a new fantasy writer like myself?
I would say, “Write what you know. write from your heart because if you put your heart into your writing, trust me, your readers will know. Most importantly don’t ever let anyone tell you what you should be writing or doing. They can’t tell your story the way you can. Also, don’t let bad reviews kill your enthusiasm for your writing, go forward no matter what. Self publishing isn’t easy but it’s worth it. Everyone won’t like what you write and you just have to find those who do and who will support you no matter what you do. Keep writing everyday, no matter what. Even if you don’t sell, you should keep writing and keep publishing because it’s your dream. No one will push you harder than you can push yourself. So, set your goals high, dream big and go for it. I believe that you can do this. Believe in yourself and your dream”
4.) What piece of literature has had the most influence on you? Why?
To be honest, the greatest influence that came from literature came to me from Danielle Steele Steele and her book Journey because in it I recognized myself, my family and that developed my teenaged mind in a different way. Also a great affect was Alyson Noel’s Immortal Series which I read a bit later in life and I loved her writing as it was very similar to my own. I still believe that if I had not read her series, I would not be brave enough to put myself out there and look for ways to get published and now I am a self-published Author though I have far to go before I become truly successful.
5.) I see that you have not only written books but done plays as well. Tell us a bit about that?
Plays? I’ve only done one play. I took three acting courses in college as an elective with a wonderful person, Manuel Brian Simons. He taught me how to open up and not be so shy (because I am). One of the classes I took with him was a solo performance class where I had to create, stage, decorate, and perform a play that I wrote. I was nervous as can be. But, Manuel helped me with my stage fright by asking a few of the other students to help me with my play as it was a monologue/dialogue type play. Everyone loved it and I created a play that closely resembled some of the genre that I write in, YA Fantasy Romance.
But after that, I don’t really do much acting anymore though, I do miss it. I still keep in touch with Manuel and we are the best of friends which I am grateful for.
6.)Besides writing what else do you enjoy doing?
Besides writing, I love to read Romance , watch romantic movies. At one point in my life, I even did macramé. Ha ha, I still have those things somewhere. Now, I don’t do it anymore. But, I enjoy taking walks and taking pictures (somehow I took up doing that again last year).
7.)How to you balance between writing and spending time with your family?
I’m terrible at balancing things but I try. My family tends to beg me to find some time because if I’m not writing, I’m promoting my books. But sometimes, I just get tired of it all and have to do something else so I do spend time with my family.
8.)Tell us about the projects you have in the works?
Right now, I’m working on writing Book 3: Undying Love which is part of The Power of Love Series as well as Book 5 in the same series which I started by accident. Also I started a new series but I want to finish Book 3 before I write anything else because Book 3 desperately needs an ending.
9.)Can you tell us about your writing process?
Honestly, my writing process has changed so much that I hardly know how to talk about it. Especially, with Book 3: Undying Love, my writing process has changed. I write in bits and pieces. A few months ago for example I wrote the ending to Book 3: Undying Love and at the moment I am writing Chapter Twenty One in the book. I’m jumping around from Chapter to chapter and trying to fit the pieces together. Usually I don’t do that. Usually, I write consecutive chapters. But some reason Book 3 chose to be written in pieces. I also don’t write every day because with this book, I can’t. I don’t want to push it or it won’t come out the way I want it to. I want my books to be written the way I envision the story in my head. It has to flow from my mind to the paper the right way or I’ll even end up deleting a few things.
Sometimes, I can write for hours nonstop and other times, I write a paragraph and I am done. It depends on my mood, wellbeing, my inspiration, and the time I have. For example, if I have a lot going on, I won’t be able to focus on my writing and I will more likely not come out right if I force myself. But on those days (which happen more now) I just let myself have a no-writing day which is okay too.
If you couldn’t write books what would you want to do?
If I couldn’t write books I would be miserable that’s for sure. but I would probably work as a psychologist in a school or somewhere else. I studied psychology in college and chose to write my books full time. But, I suppose being a psychologist is not bad, it’s just not my dream job. My dream was to become an author.
10.) Is there anything else you would like us to know that I haven’t asked about?
Yes, I would like to thank a few people who have been by my side from the first day when I began writing: Authors: Karen D. Neal, Jessica Lauryn, Mikel Wilson, Keith Kareem Williams, Ann Anderson Martinez, Tabetha Waite. My cover designer, Jessica Tahbonemah owner at Magic Quill Graphics, who creates all my wonderful covers for my series. I also want thank my readers without whom I would not be here. The most important thank you is to you Raven for giving me a chance to tell your readers about my books.
I also want to say that my latest book, Arranged Love, Book 6 in The Power of Love Series is due to be released this summer in 2020, but I don’t have a release date yet. I’m excited to release this prequel book into the world. Don’t miss it. There’s more of Amy and Darien’s story and their family coming soon in the next books in the series.
